In December of 2009, Conwell & Associates (Birmingham, AL) and Grice Financial (Charlotte, NC) merged and became Dixon Wells, Inc. In 2011, Hunt Financial (Columbia, SC) and Quantum Insurance (Nashville, TN) broadened the Dixon Wells footprint. In 2014, Dixon Wells acquired Special Service Agency (Richmond, VA).

Background

Overview

Conwell & Associates was founded more than half a century ago and developed an expertise in working with brokers. Under the leadership of its current principal, Bill Conwell, the Birmingham office of Dixon Wells has 30 years’ experience in working with broker dealers and banks, as well as wirehouses and financial planning professionals.

In 1998, after more than ten years in the industry, Steve Grice founded Grice Financial. In addition to working with brokers and financial planners, the firm developed deep proficiency with broker dealers, financial planners, property
& casualty agencies as well as other non traditional distribution channels. In 1996, when the Supreme Court cleared the way for banks to sell insurance, they were one of the first firms to develop those markets.

Hunt Financial Group was founded 30 years ago in Columbia, SC and is a full-service brokerage general agency with an expertise in advanced market, multi-platform specialization. Principal Ray Hunt has developed long-lasting relationships both the wirehouse and traditional brokerage channels. A former trustee of the National Association of Financial Advisors, Ray is known for working with all channels on developing programs that build value.

Quantum Insurance Partners of Nashville, Tennessee was founded 31 years ago as Benz & Associates. Current Dixon Wells principal Robert Flack acquired the business in 1997. When founded, the firm focused on working with property & casualty insurance agencies. Robert has enhanced the firm’s technology platform and has worked to broaden distribution channels into new areas such as financial planners, career agencies and community and regional banks.

Special Service Agency of Richmond, Virginia began serving brokers in the Mid- Atlantic region in 1979. Founded on the principles of providing personal attention, top products, strong underwriting and knowledgeable personnel, the agency was a perfect addition to the growing Dixon Wells family. Since its acquisition, the Richmond office has continued serving those ideals while bringing technology and a broader product portfolio to a growing group of financial professionals.

The Rucker Company is the newest member of Dixon Wells effective January 1, 2016.  The founders, Dave Kopelcheck and John Rucker have provided advanced insurance life sales in Columbus, Ohio and Philadelphia, PA  for over 60 years. The Rucker Company built a successful BGA operation by providing critical underwriting expertise, point of sale assistance, and advanced sales support to the banking, wire house, and independent advisor channels.  The Rucker Company was a longtime member of LifeMark Partners.   Dave Kopelcheck is a current member of the Risk Appraisal Forum, which is an exclusive organization that focuses on advanced underwriting.
